Babe Curl Wig Review: Nearly 30 Years Searching | S. Riviere

Customer Review · Babe Curl wig

I have been searching for this quality of hair for nearly 30 years.

After nearly 30 years of searching, one client found the hair she was looking for in a Babe Curl wig. Here is her review in her own words, and the raw Indian single donor hair qualities that explain what she felt, what a Hollywood costume designer noticed, and why she is already planning her next order.

The full review

I purchased the Babe Curl wig from @srivierehair and I can truly say I have been searching for this quality of hair for nearly 30 years!

The moment I received my wig and touched the hair, I knew immediately that it was quality. The raw Indian hair is absolutely beautiful, soft, and luxurious.

I recently had to go to Hollywood, and one of the studio costume designers was extremely impressed with the quality of the raw Indian hair. Mind you, she is a professional who works for a major film company and is very familiar with wigs and hairpieces, so hearing that from her really confirmed what I already knew—the quality is top-notch!

My curls aren’t quite as curly as the wig pictured, but I completely understand that with raw hair, no two wigs will be exactly alike. My wig still has beautiful curls, and I absolutely love it.

I’m currently in the process of lightening my wig, and in just a few more weeks, I’m already planning to order another one!

I also want to thank @Nicholetheartist for sharing so much wig and hair education. Learning more about raw hair, the different textures, and what to expect has helped me appreciate the quality of my wig even more.

Sriviere Hair has truly impressed me with the quality of their hair and wigs. After searching for this kind of hair for 30 years, I’m so happy I finally found it! ❤️

Shared exactly as she wrote it. We only added paragraph breaks.

Why a search can take 30 years

Most hair sold as "human hair" has been chemically processed so it looks uniform in the bag. The cuticle is stripped in an acid bath, then the hair is coated in silicone to give it a smooth finish. When that coating washes off, the hair underneath turns dry and tangled. It can look beautiful on day one and nothing like itself a few months later.

That is the problem Sonya Riviere set out to solve. After more than 15 years as a working stylist, for brides, film and television, she started sourcing and testing hair herself because too much of what was on the market did not hold up. S. Riviere carries one kind of hair: raw Indian single donor hair, never chemically processed and never steamed.

We cannot speak to every stop on our client's search. What we can do is walk through what she noticed about her Babe Curl wig, and the quality behind each thing she noticed.

What she noticed, and why

01, The first touch"The moment I received my wig and touched the hair, I knew immediately that it was quality."

The softness she felt belongs to the hair itself. Raw hair has never been through an acid bath or coated in silicone, so there is nothing on the surface to wear away. The cuticle, the hair's protective outer layer, is still intact and runs in one direction from root to tip. That is where the natural softness and shine of raw hair come from, and why it stays that way wash after wash.

02, A professional's eye"One of the studio costume designers was extremely impressed with the quality of the raw Indian hair."

A costume designer for a major film company looks at wigs and hairpieces up close, for a living. What a trained eye looks for is consistency, and that is what single donor hair delivers. Every strand in a single donor unit comes from one person, so the texture, density and cuticle direction match from root to tip. Blended hair from many donors can look fine in the bag, but the mismatched cuticles are what lead to matting and shedding.

It is also the standard the hair was chosen by. Sonya has worked as a stylist on film sets, where continuity demands perfection and hair has to hold up under studio lights. Hearing the same verdict from a costume designer is about as honest a test as hair can get.

03, An honest expectation"With raw hair, no two wigs will be exactly alike."

She is right, and her understanding is the heart of buying raw hair. Because every S. Riviere wig is made with raw Indian single donor hair, natural color and texture can vary slightly while staying within the texture family. No two donors are exactly alike. Babe Curl is a Premium Rare Texture.

A few other things shape how curly a unit looks:

  • Length. Lengths are measured stretched, and the longer the hair, the looser the curl pattern.
  • Shipping. Hair can arrive slightly stretched or flattened from its protective packaging. Gently wash it and let it air dry completely, free of product, to bring back its natural texture.
  • The first few washes. Like your own hair, a raw curl can relax slightly at first. A sulfate free shampoo, a leave in conditioner on wet hair and air drying keep the definition.

What she received is the real texture of one donor's hair, and in her words, it "still has beautiful curls."

04, Making it her own"I'm currently in the process of lightening my wig."

This is only possible because the hair is raw. Chemically untouched hair responds to color the way your own natural hair would. It can be lifted to blonde and accepts permanent color evenly, where heavily processed hair often will not lift evenly at all.

Sonya's guidance for any color service: always do a strand test first, work with a professional or a stylist experienced in coloring extensions, and follow up with a deep conditioning treatment.

05, Coming back"I'm already planning to order another one!"

Raw single donor hair is an investment that lasts. With the cuticle intact and nothing done to weaken its structure, it keeps its integrity for years with proper care, not months. The most common reason hair stops looking good is maintenance, not quality.

06, Knowing what to expect"Learning more about raw hair, the different textures, and what to expect has helped me appreciate the quality of my wig even more."

She thanked @Nicholetheartist for the wig and hair education that helped her understand raw hair, its textures and what to expect. We agree with her completely. When you know what raw hair is and how it behaves, natural variation stops being a surprise and becomes part of the proof that the hair is real. It is why S. Riviere teaches before it sells. Our Knowledge Centre covers raw hair, single donor sourcing and every texture in the collection.

About the Babe Curl texture

Babe Curl is one of S. Riviere's most exclusive textures: bold, round, springy ringlets with a soft, bubble like formation that spirals toward the ends. It is hand selected from raw South Indian single donor hair, ethically sourced from South Indian temples where donating hair is a centuries old act of devotion.

  • 100% raw Indian single donor hair
  • Unprocessed, with no steam or chemical treatment
  • Retains its natural curl pattern when left to air dry
  • Cuticle aligned, tangle free and reusable

You can wear Babe Curl as a Sundari HD Lace Closure Wig, a Sundari Partial Wig, as bundles, or as Sonya's own Chandani faux locs. Sundari wigs are made to order, so please allow up to 4 to 5 weeks for processing and shipping.

Keeping your curls beautiful

  • Wash with a sulfate free shampoo and apply a leave in conditioner while the hair is wet.
  • Let it air dry when you want to keep the natural curl, and go easy on heat.
  • Braid or twist the hair before bed.
  • When you are not wearing it, store it in your S. Riviere satin bag.

The full routine lives in our Hair Care & Maintenance guide.

The short version. She felt the quality the moment she touched it because raw hair has nothing coating it. A film costume designer saw it because single donor hair is consistent from root to tip. Her curls are her donor's own, which is why no two wigs are alike. And she can lighten it, keep it for years and order another because nothing was ever done to weaken it.
